Finally a Diagnosis

I discovered last week that the excrutiating pain in my left foot/ankle, which I have experienced since high school, is due to a birth defect called "Tarsal Coalition"
Tarsal Coalition is the result of:

" the abnormal union of 2 or more bones in the hindfoot and midfoot. This union may be either complete or incomplete, and the condition may be congenital or acquired secondary to trauma, infection, surgery, or articular disorders. Coalitions can be bony (synostosis), cartilaginous (synchondrosis), or fibrous (syndesmosis)"http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/396694-overview

My pain occurs after excessive use or prolonged standing on my left foot. I have spent years limiting my activity or standing for long periods of time, including a night out, dancing, hiking, fairs/festivals etc..., as the result would always be debilitating pain that would result limited mobility, pain, and not being able to walk without limping or using crutches.

I first experienced this in high school around the age of 16.  While working my part time job at a fast food restaurant, spending 8 hours per day on the weekends, I was always left limping and in pain for a full day afterwards.

The pain can be incredible and it has resulted in me limiting my activity over the years.  We all know the repercussions of that..  Over the past year the pain has been more frequent - which I've read since the diagnosis last week - is common.

Finally, to have a diagnosis is amazing in itself, in addition to discovering 1 out of 100 people experience this is also amazing.

I'll post more about my experience and any treatment plans.
